Depressed people need time especially if they are teens.  A home should be a haven. But  when you’ve tried everything with your  teen. It’s hard to make your home that happy, safe place. The problem is that inner angry and  sadness can leads to  depression. Some teenagers feel unloved. They can be extremely difficult to live with. Dealing with a low spirited  person is less action of changing your adolescent. It means that you’ve got to find a way of dealing effectively with your own emotions surrounding your teen’s pain. Keep them busy and feeling like they’re part of something. Feeling embarrassed over your teen’s behavior or condition? Trust me, your teen is feeling worse.

Reserve the comments of “why can’t you” and “just do this” for another day. Tough love is one approach, and you’re right, your teen will have to learn to deal with difficult situations, but now, depression is confusing any learning you had planned for the day.

Many parents sweep the problem of depression under the rug. Stay active and involved in your child’s therapy. By being available, caring and kind. Help your teen’s well-being by making sure that you’re encouraging and uplifting and not breaking down. Most of all, know when it is time to seek out professionals. Teenage Depression can be pretty persistent and often professional help  needed to break the cycle.

  1. This is great information. I think depression in teens can be easily dismissed as hormones, but it’s important to make sure they get treatment if they are depressed.
