Just Want to be Happy
When you are depressed, it is difficult to be happy. Because, there’s something that just blocks every last ounce of bliss out of your life. It seems as if nothing you do can make it any better. It’s not the end of the road. Believe it or not, it’s about the small habits. Small habits can change everything. Do you know of a game won by ten, eleven or twelve points. Usually, Its won by just one point. We have to push just far enough to make it. Stop aiming for the hilltop. Try focusing on making small goals, small changes. Celebrate each of those wins separately.
Just Want to be Happy
If we don’t experience the winter, we cannot appreciate the summer. If we don’t experience hard times. We cannot appreciate the good times. Life is a bit bittersweet like that sometimes. While these sayings is loaded clichés. They sometimes ring true. Such as this saying,“What goes up, must come down,” and, “when you’ve reached rock bottom, at least you can go no further.” Life is about constant renewal. We’ve forgotten that as time has gone by and technology have allowed us to be ever more dependent on stability.
I Just Want to be Happy
Life, in fact, is not stable at all. When we try to hold onto something for too long after all, we undo the delicate balance of life. I’ve written this before but it’s worth mentioning again. Letting go of what you think you want is the best way to find what you’re meant to have – unlimited happiness.
Just Want to be Happy
For so many, the attainment of things equals happiness. In other words, happiness depends on the success. Life and success is measured for many in what we’ve gained, materially. Happiness, then, depends on whether or not we reach our expectations to put it differently, How many of us stop just short of our expectations because instead of setting the bar to where we can walk? We set it all the way at the top of the mountain that we know we’ll never climb. I want you to be happy. To be able to live with depression and learn from it, not suffer emotional death.
Just Want Happy to be Happy? Try these steps
- Let go of your expectations. Set new ones where you have to and remember to set them in a way you can attain.
- Redefine what success means to you and go for it 100%. Don’t worry about what the world tells you it should be.
- Make the changes that you need to make in your life. If your lifestyle is getting you down. Be strong and make changes. Even if it’s slow going. But always strive to keep going. Define your living not by your circumstances. But by your choices In other word, Do something every day. That will bring you closer to where you should be. Baby steps can be frustrating and so many people give up. Because they feel it’s not worth the time. Success and happiness is when you push through and you see your steps as being part of the learning process. Be Happy!
Letting go is easier said than done, but I agree – it needs to be done in order to move on.
When depression sinks in I have to force myself to go for a walk. That seems to help
One really needs to be careful with what they “want”, sometimes you get it and realize the desire to get/accomplish it was more important that obtaining. Looking back over the time spent can in itself be depressing.
I always strive to be 1% better each and every day! It is those baby steps that over time will lead to real change 🙂
I agree with what you said…define your living by your choices, not by your circumstance. I always try to remember that for each day I wake up it is my choice what mood I will be in.
I have dealt with depression on and off for about 20 years. The best advice I can give is to try to be around others, no matter how much you feel you want to be alone. That’s one thing that has helped me over the years.
Peer support is important and being around others can easy the alone phase although for many its hard. Thanks Nikki for you comment.
Its true there are so many things I need to let go of but it is so difficult. I need to learn to trust myself.
I am diagnosed with bipolar so can relate to this post well
Letting go or giving forgiveness is hard to do but necessary for happiness within.
These are great reminders! I truly think that without the down times, we can’t truly appreciate how amazing the good times are!
I always try to make a goals list, that way i never lose focus.
I choose to be happy despite hard times and winter. Many people choose to be unhappy because it is all they know and choosing to let go and be happy is a scary unknown.
I have never struggled with depression, but I know people who have and it just seems so exhausting! Happier is SO much easier!
Life is hard. Staying positive is hard. But you can do it girl!!
When you said, do something every day that gets you closer to where you want to be, that hit home. I’m going to make sure of it!
That’s such a beautiful message. Not everything in life is going to be great, you can’t expect that even in the smallest things. But it’s important to keep holding on as things are eventually going to get better.
Elizabeth O, Have hoped is what I always say to the teens that I meet. Life may seem bleak now. If we just try to be Patient. I know hard to be happy when depressed but there is light at the end.
Don’t find our happiness, create it. Good post. Glad you shared this.
Absolutely. Slowing things down can really help, but I know when my Depression takes over, I can’t just “be” happy. I wish it were that easy!
I understand. Its hard to be happy when the Depression take over.
Life is depressing enough. I learned to find happiness in all I do. Somewhere. Excellent advice.
Depression is nothing to take lightly. It affects so many of us.
Powerful post. It’s definitely a necessity, but it can be difficult sometimes. Thanks so much.
Very great advice! So important to focus on those baby steps to achieve what you want your life to be. You can’t expect everything to change overnight.
I believe happiness is a choice. You may be experiencing a bad day and you really feel like you are on a slump, you can just think about the worst that could have happened and you will be a little bit relieved.
Unrealistic expectations tend to not work so well for anyone. So while letting go of expectations is good, it makes sense to always have realistic expectations and that sometimes helps the feeling of depression
Fully agree, unless you have bad times you can’t appreciate the good times. I also love this part “If your lifestyle is getting you down. Be strong and make changes.” Thanks for the great reminder!
When I feel depressed, I have learned to just let it ride. It’s kind of challenging to get back up but I’ve learned that it really is the best way to go about it.
Kathy Kenny Ngo, this is a great idea never thought about this just let it ride out.
This is so true! Depression is so hard to fight against and it has to come from something inside.
It can be really hard for me to let go of expectations. My husband is really good at showing me that it’s ok to let go sometimes.
I always try to be positive about things, it is not always easy but I always try to do one thing that make me happy everyday
It is so true that it is hard to smile when you are sad. We have to re-define happiness
Happiness is our choice but sometimes it’s so hard to pretend to be happy while the inside is depression. I always thought positive way.
Nicole Escat This won’t be easy. To be happy when sad no matter what we do. Depression just won’t go away. Being positive may help.
It is good to always look for the positive things in life. Surround yourself with good things, people and goals.
I usually get depressed so easily & take some time to get out of it, but I think this is how you have to head with it as life has all ups & downs. The only thing is I always take the positives out of what I faced.
I hear you there! Life is so tough sometimes no matter what is going on in life, even if things are technically bad, you still feel down. Just need to find a reason to smile.
I read somewhere once that you just take one step forward… That one step leads to another door. I believe that to be true.
My dad is suffering from depression but lately little by little he overcome it. With proper medication, tender love and care do really helps. I’m so glad my father is not sad anymore happiness is achieve thru positive thinking and loving family.
Edwin Lao, Glad to hear you Father is doing well.
I think some of the things we have to factor in is how society defines “happiness”. It can be so unrealistic sometimes, which makes people that are easily subject to depression even more vulnerable.
This is a great point never though of this before. Society & media portrait beauty, weight and money equal happiness that may seem illusive. The stress of keeping up can make a person more vulnerable to depression.
Love this! It isn’t always easy to let go but it definitely can be worth and and so helpful to being happy
Letting go is difficult. But you are right it is so necessary if we are to fully enjoy life.
I have dealt with my friends having depression and I helped them through it and now they are so happy.
Hi Patrice,
Wonderful post indeed 🙂
You are so right about all that you mentioned. There always two sides to a coin as they say, so we shouldn’t expect to be happy always – the ups and downs of life is what make it interesting, isn’t it? I guess we all pass through the phases of depression, which can be due to any reason. But what matters most is how we overcome them and find our happiness, which we have to do ourselves.
Thanks for sharing. Happy weekend 🙂
Harleena Singh, We all go through periods of feelings of depression. Staying the course no matter how bleak it maybe seem. With hope and See it through. Eventually life will get better.
This is such a great post. Happiness comes from within and a love of yourself. I had a friend who suffered from depression for years and l must admit l didn’t really understand the underlying cause. Getting medical help was a step in the right direction and is now doing much better. It’s important to get help when needed.
KemKem, Getting medical help is a step in the right direction. You are not alone many people are now becoming aware of depression especially among teenagers.
Depression unfortunately affects more people than we know. Whenever I get down in the dumps, I pray. I thank God for all the things that I have, every blessing I can remember until I start to feel better. Some people are so much worse off.
I’m so glad you wrote an article like this to help start those difficult conversations. People need to talk more about depression so more will stop seeing it as a sign of weakness. I agree with the point you made about it being about small changes as well.
Sometimes for me, happiness is a choice. I have to make a conscious effort to be happy instead of mad, glad, or sad. When I do this, it does seem to work and I start to feel much better.
Depression is serious and it is way more common than people care to admit. Circumstances can and do affect how we feel, sometimes just talking to a great therapist can do wonders.
Depression can occur in anyone. It’s important to find the source and work on it.
It can be hard to come up from such a dark place. I pray that people take advantage of all the resources being offered to help treat depression.
Such a great message. It is important to manage our expectations an continually assess where you are and be realistic.
Being happy is so hard for some. I know several who went through a depression and it’s very hard for them to see the positive amongst everything they are faced with. Loved your post.
I need to fix some unresolved issues in order to get true happiness.
These days I try to make a conscious decision to have a great day! When things starts looking bleak, I remind myself that I still got life.
